Installing TopTeam Desktop App (Net Client)

What is TopTeam Desktop App?

TopTeam Desktop App is a “rich user interface” Windows desktop application that connects to TopTeam Application Server and provides access to TopTeam Repository.
TopTeam Desktop App can connect to TopTeam Application Server using one of the following network protocols: TCP/IP or HTTP/HTTPS.

Who should install TopTeam Desktop App?

TopTeam Desktop App should be installed on every TopTeam user’s computer who will be authoring Requirements, Use Cases, Business Process models, etc. i.e. install on computers of TopTeam users that have the Author license allocated to them.

NOTE: TopTeam users with Collaborator or Viewer licenses can access the repository using TopTeam Web and do not need TopTeam Desktop App to be installed on their computers.

Where is TopTeam Desktop App installed?

TopTeam Desktop App is a Windows desktop application and should be installed on a TopTeam user’s personal computer (desktop or laptop).

How is TopTeam Desktop App licensed?

There are no restrictions on installation of TopTeam Desktop App. In other words, TopTeam Desktop App can be installed on any number of computers as long as you have a valid license for TopTeam Application Server. TopTeam Desktop App’s usage is controlled by the number of user licenses available on TopTeam Application Server.

Do you need to have Windows Administrator permissions to install or run TopTeam Desktop App?

TopTeam Desktop App does not require Windows Administrator permissions to install or run the application.

Preparations

1. Download TopTeam Desktop App installer from the TechnoSolutions Customer Portal (access to Customer Portal is available only to licensed customers) or a link provided to you by our sales or support department.

The installer file name format is: TopTeamDesktopApp_Edition_<TopTeam Desktop App Version>_MinDB<TopTeam Database Schema Version Required>_<Release Date>.msi

E.g. TopTeamDesktopApp_Adv_12.10_MinDB11.4_04May18

In the example above:

  • Adv – is the Advanced edition of TopTeam Desktop App
  • 12.10 – is the version number of TopTeam Desktop App
  • 11.4 – is the TopTeam Database Schema version required for this version of TopTeam Desktop App
  • 04May18– is the release date of this TopTeam Desktop App

UPGRADE

IF YOU ARE UPGRADING an existing installation of TopTeam Desktop App, ensure that the TopTeam Database Schema version and the TopTeam Application Server version required for the new TopTeam Desktop App has already been installed on your server. Please refer to the article TopTeam Desktop App Platform Compatibility Guide to learn about the compatible versions of TopTeam Application Server and TopTeam Database Schema.

If you are upgrading an existing installation of TopTeam Desktop App, ensure that you have closed all running instances of TopTeam Desktop App before proceeding with the installation.

Prerequisites

Step 1. Run the TopTeam Desktop App installer

Step 2. Click Next to begin the installation

Step 3. Read and accept the TopTeam Desktop App License Agreements

Step 4. Specify the installation folder

Step 5. Choose Application Data and Settings folder

TopTeam Desktop App saves settings such as Preferences, Bookmarks, Grid Themes, etc. in this folder. This folder is NOT used to store any TopTeam Repository data.

We recommend that you choose Windows Application Data Folder if the Windows user who will be using TopTeam Desktop App does not have Windows Administrator privileges.

To save the settings in the installation or custom folder, the Windows user who will be using TopTeam Desktop App should have Write permissions in that folder.

Step 6. Configure Shortcuts and Application Settings

Step 6. Review the installation summary, then click Install

Step 7. Click Finish to exit the installation process
